Five Organizations to Donate to This Holiday Season
Organizations to give to this holiday season with peace of mind.[/caption]As the holiday season edges closer it is important to remember those less fortunate, and those that just need a hand during this tough challenging time. At Red Five we focus our philanthropic efforts through our entity, Red Hands Helping – and I encourage other firms to help give back to their communities in similar ways. Here are five entities active in the national capital region near Washington, D.C. that can benefit from your donations of time and/or resources:
Food & Friends
The only community-based organization in the D.C. region providing home-delivered medically tailored meals and medical nutrition therapy to our neighbors living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious illnesses. Visit Food and Friends Website.
Cornerstones
For nearly 50 years, Cornerstones has been helping neighbors in need overcome tough economic times in an already high cost-of-living region. The service area of Cornerstones has grown to include most of northwestern Fairfax County. Each of us can become a Cornerstone and continue our history of helping people build more stable lives by connecting them to vital resources that solve their needs for housing, childcare, food or financial assistance. Visit Cornerstone SVA's website.
Calvary Women’s Services
Calvary Women’s Services support women as they use their own strengths and skills to reach their goals. Women here form a community of support — a sisterhood — that fosters an environment where everyone can reach their highest potential. Each woman who comes through our doors has unique needs. With the right services and encouragement, they are empowered to transform their own lives. Visit Calvary Services website.
AARP
AARP Foundation has local chapters across the country and serves vulnerable people 50 and older by creating and advancing effective solutions that help them secure the essentials. Visit the AARP Foundation website.
Team Rubicon
Team Rubicon’s mission is providing relief to those affected by disaster or crises, no matter when or where they strike. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and identity, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life. Visit Team Rubicon USA's website.
Red Five realizes that at some point in our lives each of us needs help from a group of compassionate people, organizations that can make a difference, and the groups above provide those services, and help folks come through the time of challenge. These groups rely on donations to help them continue their missions. Give to your local charities this season and help them help others in need.
